Sick child

I appreciate that as a working parent you need to be able to go to work, however if your child is unwell then they may be better cared for in their own home with a parent. I am happy to care for children with minor coughs and colds but will not care for children who are very unwell, infectious or running a high temperature. I have to go out each day to do school and pre-school runs and need to consider the welfare of all the children in my care.

If your child has had diarrhoea or sickness in the last forty-eight hours please do not bring them, but call and let me know.

If your child becomes ill whilst in my care, I will make them as comfortable as possible, isolate them from the other children if necessary and reassure them. I will contact you immediately and continue to care for your child until you arrive.

I am happy to administer medication-please see my Administering medication policy.

I will contact you if Thomas is not well, inform you of the illness/symptoms and whether I am able to work. This then allows you to make an informed decision as to whether to bring your child or not.

It is my duty to inform Ofsted of any episodes of food poisoning affecting two or more children and the timescale.

I must inform Public Health (infectious diseases) of any infectious diseases on the Notifiable Diseases list contracted by the children in my care. I am also required to inform Ofsted of the occurance and the actions that I have been advised to take by the Health Protection Agency.

I will promote hand-washing in warm soapy water before eating or handling food and after using the toilet. Each child will also have access to their own face flannel and towel, which I ask you to provide. I will promote the use of tissues for children with coughs and minor colds. All spillages of bodily fluids will be cleaned up immediately and I will wear disposable gloves for the changing of nappies. I will discard the gloves after each change.

If you have any concerns regarding this policy please contact me.
